It is almost time to officially play some ball! If you are reading this email and have not yet finalized your payment or arranged a payment plan, please do so before Sunday afternoon as we prepare to draft and play on Sunday.
When is the Draft?
We are drafting live at the fields starting at 5:30pm on Sunday, with games starting immediately after the conclusion of the draft. You are welcome to come watch or you can use the fields for some light practice while the draft is conducted. As soon as the draft concludes, games will begin!
What do I wear?
All players will receive t-shirts but they ship the day after the draft, so you will not have anything specific waiting for you on week 1. Just wear comfortable clothes and cleats - but no metal spikes please. Make sure you have your fielding mitt and bat, if you have one. If you don't have a bat yet, many players are happy to share and teach you about bat certifications so you can eventually purchase one. Just ask!
Is there a practice?
Tomorrow nights games are officially preseason games - so the scores will not count towards the season standings. This is your chance to get to know your fellow teammates and a chance for your coach to get to know everyone and learn their positions.
What if I can't attend?
If you can't attend the first week, you will receive your draft results via email and be able to play the following week.
I'm literally brand new....
Welcome to your new addiction! When you get drafted, chat with your coach and be honest about your experience... but they likely already have an idea. Be open to learning about the game and don't put too much pressure on yourself. Every team has a few Pros, and every team has a few Average Joes/Janes. You don't need to perform at superhero levels... just strive to get a little better each week!
I'm a pro at this already...
Welcome! Be ready for a unique style of play that is focused on fun and socializing rather than beating each other senseless. Just because we play recreationally doesn't mean we don't play to win - we just do so while focusing on socializing and having fun. We hope you use this opportunity to impart some of your knowledge onto the new players and help them grow. This is not the league to get overly hyped up, or angry, or aggressively competitive - this is the league to develop new players. The teams that win? Usually the ones who coach up their novices the best and play best as a team - so be ready to help your coach navigate that process!
