Team -
We are so excited to have you join us for our opening session at Broad Ripple Middle School!
What is the Speakeasy Mission?
Speakeasy a Non-profit, No-pay organization. Meaning we run all of our programming at cost, and everything we make over our cost we donate back to our community. No Pay means it is written into our organizational by-laws that no one can be paid or compensated for their services, except our referees. We are members of the community, aiming to create safe spaces for everyone to play soccer.
Who will this league benefit for a chairtable aspect?
This league will allocate any excess to fund donations to local parks or player access. 10-15% of speakeasy participants play on a free or reduced rate. We also make yearly donations to parks, Exodus Refugee, IPS, and local youth soccer clubs (St.Francis, Next 11 Academy, and more). This league also kicks off our free community sponsor program, so you will see some of our community partners on our jerseys. We did not charge for these spots but instead encouraged everyone to check out these local small businesses
What do I need to bring?
Cleats, Shirt for your team's color (self-selected or assigned) - we play outdoors
A good attitude
When do I need to show-up
Game Clocks will start at 8:30 this year, regardless of team preparedness. Have your team arrive 15 minutes before your listed start time to ensure that you are on the field, ready to play.
When do I find out what team I am on as a free agent?
You should have your free agent team assignment and the upcoming league schedule by Monday, March 16th.
What will the schedule format be?
8 games over 6 or 8 weeks, depending on league registrations
Divisions of 4 - so two games against each team in your division, then a 2-week playoff
Why small divisions?
It is something that we are experimenting with a little bit - the goal is to get teams more games with teams that are in their competition level/experience level
CO-ED Rules
Upper Division is meant for higher levels of competition and has no formal gender requirements on the field. Inherently, we believe that at this level, every player on the team is expected to be competitive and experienced, meaning the ladies are often more of an asset than some of the guys.
Lower Division is meant for casual competition and should have a matching minority gender (up to 2) on the field. Teams will play down to a maximum of 1 player on the field.
Behavior Expectations
This is at the end of the day an adult coed be cool to others and kind to others on the field. There is no prize for winning this league; you won't tell your grandkids about it, probably either.
Fighting will result in a league expulsion - don't be the first
Dissent to the referees may result in explusion from the league - it is hard to find consistent and good referees. We treat ours well!
No Sliding for field players
All kicks are indirect in the lower league and direct in the upper league
What other opportunities do we have to play?
Tuesday Men's Competitive Invitational Draft League -
A competitive league meant to connect higher-level players into a larger community. We play 7 weeks of soccer in a league format, including playoffs. Then we draft for the next week - this is geared towards higher-level players. There is also a strong social aspect to this since you will end up playing with everyone at some point. We do bar nights, boys nights, and other social events for those who would be interested. Starts in April
